|Plant Baby Book|
Here's an idea that has my students very excited about collecting data on their plants each week. Each plant has a Baby Book (a 3 ring binder in which we keep the data collection sheet, a copy of the growth guide, and daily journal sheets). On the cover of each is a picture of the plant, the name of the baby (plant), the name of the parent (student), and the names of plant sitters (students who assist the main care-giver). I took pictures of each student with their plant as it emerged from the growth medium, and have allowed them to take pictures of other major events in their plant's life. These all get included in their plant's baby book. They love to journal from the perspective of their plant...they discuss fears as new events happen that the plant is unsure of (just as a baby or child experiences fears about new developments). I am holding a contest and giving a weekly prize for the Plant Baby Book that keeps the most accurate records and provides the most insight into the life of a soy or wheat plant!Deb FinnPilgrim Park Middle SchoolElm Grove, WI
