Your
Challenge
Landing a fully functioning rover on Mars presented
many challenges to NASA engineers. Space Explorers™, Inc. wants
you to develop a landing system of your own. Your goal is to develop
a landing system that will successfully deliver a raw egg to the
ground from a 30 foot drop.
The Rules
To participate in the contest, your class needs
to complete the egg drop activity (located in the Activities area
of the Teacher Section) and send us "in-action" pictures. The class
should also pick and submit the best student design for their class.
Multiple class submissions from the same teacher are acceptable.
The rules are very minimal:
- No electrical devices
- No chemical reactions
- Your Lander can be as big or as small as you want
- Any materials such
as Styrofoam, balloons, cotton, etc can be used
- Your Lander can
be as heavy or as light as you need
Submission
Note: Contest submissions should be mailed by February 6, 2004
Submissions should contain a short journal
of how the students prepared for the egg drop, what problems/solutions
they may have encountered during the preparation process and their
results. This journal should be a maximum of one page. Your submission
must also include photos of the class working on the egg drop activity
and student quotes that answer the question "Why do you think Mars
is cool?"
Photos can either be submitted by mail or electronically in JPEG or
Tiff formats. A
photo release form must also be signed by any student that is pictured
in a photo and submitted to Space Explorers, Inc.™ Please click here
